First Communion

The topics that prepare a child to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Tap each topic to study it.

God is our Father, who created us out of love and always cares for us. He is good, all-powerful and eternal. We begin every prayer with the Sign of the Cross, recognizing God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

We believe in one God in three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is the central mystery of our faith.

Jesus is the Son of God who became man. He was born of the Virgin Mary, taught us to love, died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day to give us eternal life.

Mary is the Mother of Jesus and our Mother too. She said "yes" to God with all her heart. We honor her and ask her to pray for us with the Hail Mary.

The Church is the great family of the baptized, founded by Jesus on the apostles. It is guided by the Pope and the bishops, and unites us as brothers and sisters in the faith.

The sacraments are visible signs of God's grace. There are seven: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony.

Baptism makes us children of God and members of the Church, and washes away original sin. It is the first sacrament and the door to the others.

In this sacrament God forgives our sins through the priest. First we make an examination of conscience, we are sorry, we confess, and we do the penance. We leave with a clean soul.

In the Eucharist, the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ. We receive Jesus with respect and love, in God's grace. It is the center of Christian life.

They are the law of love God gave to Moses: to love God above all things and our neighbor as ourselves. They teach us to live as children of God.

The Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be and the Sign of the Cross. These are the prayers every Catholic learns by heart.

Confirmation

The topics that prepare a young person to receive the Holy Spirit and become a witness of Christ.

The Creed sums up our faith: we believe in God the Father, Creator; in Jesus Christ his Son; in the Holy Spirit; in the Church, the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

He is the third Person of the Holy Trinity, the Advocate Jesus promised us. He gives us life, guides us, comforts us and makes us holy.

Wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord. They help us live and defend the faith.

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity…" (Galatians 5:22). They are the signs that the Spirit lives in us.

It perfects the grace of Baptism. The bishop lays on hands and anoints the forehead with sacred chrism, saying: "Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit." It strengthens us to be witnesses of Christ.

From creation, God has sought humanity: Abraham, Moses and the prophets prepared the coming of Jesus, who saved us and sent his Spirit to the Church.

Through Confirmation we are sent to be witnesses and disciples: to proclaim Jesus by word and example, and to serve others.

Theological: faith, hope and charity. Cardinal: prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance. They help us do good.

Acts of love for our neighbor: feed the hungry, visit the sick, forgive, comfort… "I was hungry and you gave me food" (Matthew 25).

Take part in Mass on Sundays and feast days, confess at least once a year, receive Communion at Easter, fast and abstain on the appointed days, and help the Church.

Mary is a model of faith and our intercessor. The saints are friends of God already in heaven who pray for us and inspire us to live holy lives.
